Recipe Details:

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 8-10 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Serving Size: 1 cookie
  • Recipe Category: Dessert
  • Cuisine: American (Holiday)

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour (your choice)
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup (1 stick) Butter, softened
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup Milk or half & half
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon

For the Icing:

  • 1 pack of Icing (store-bought or your favorite recipe)
  • Food coloring (blue, green, red, yellow or your preferred colors)

Directions for Baking:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats and set them aside.

  2. Prepare Wet & Dry Ingredients:

    • In one mixing bowl, whisk together wet ingredients: butter, sugar, egg, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
    • In another bowl, whisk together dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until the dough comes together. If the dough is too soft, add a little flour and refrigerate it for 10 minutes to firm up.

  4. Roll Out Dough:

    • Divide the dough into two halves.
    • Roll each half on a lightly floured surface to about 1 inch thick.
    • Use 2 to 3-inch cookie cutters to cut out shapes (Christmas trees, stars, etc.). Re-roll any scrap pieces of dough and continue cutting out more cookies.
  5. Bake the Cookies:

    • Place the cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
    • Bake in separate batches at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, or until the tops of the cookies are set and very lightly browned.
  6. Cool the Cookies:

    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack or parchment paper to finish cooling completely.

Directions for Icing:

  1. Prepare Icing: Separate the pre-bought icing into 4 bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl to achieve the desired colors (blue, green, red, yellow).

  2. Decorate the Cookies: Once the cookies have cooled, apply the icing to the cookies using a spatula or piping bags. Get creative with your decorations—add sprinkles, edible glitter, or extra designs.

  3. Let the Icing Set: Allow the cookies to sit for 10 minutes to let the icing set before enjoying.
