Introduction

Chicken Cordon Bleu is a classic, elegant dish featuring tender chicken breasts wrapped around savory ham and melted Swiss cheese. The chicken is breaded and baked to golden perfection, making it a delicious, satisfying meal for any occasion. Whether you're serving it for a family dinner or a special celebration, this dish is sure to impress with its rich flavors and crispy exterior.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices of deli ham
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for finishing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound them to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch.
  3. Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Lay a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast. Roll the chicken up tightly, securing the filling inside.
  5. Set up a breading station: place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten eggs in another, and the breadcrumbs in a third. Dip each chicken roll first into the flour, then into the egg, and finally into the breadcrumbs, making sure each roll is well coated.
  6. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the chicken rolls in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the cheese is melted inside.
  8. If desired, add a tablespoon of butter to the skillet during the last 5 minutes of baking to enhance the flavor and crispiness.
  9. Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your delicious Chicken Cordon Bleu!
