This easy fried cabbage recipe is a simple yet flavorful dish with caramelized onions, crispy bacon, and tender sautéed cabbage. Perfect as a side dish for any meal!
Ingredients:
- 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
- 4 slices bacon, chopped (optional)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (for a tangy kick)
Instructions:
- Cook the Bacon (If Using): In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the pan.
- Sauté the Onions & Garlic: Add butter or olive oil to the pan (if needed). Stir in onions and cook for 2-3 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add the Cabbage: Toss in the chopped cabbage and stir well. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but slightly crispy on the edges.
- Season: Sprinkle in smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine.
- Add Final Touches: Drizzle in apple cider vinegar and stir. If using bacon, add it back to the pan. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.
- Serve & Enjoy: Remove from heat and serve warm as a side dish.
