Jeera rice is a fragrant and flavorful Indian side dish made with basmati rice and cumin seeds. It pairs perfectly with curries, dals, and grilled meats.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water
- 1 tbsp ghee or oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
- 1 small bay leaf (optional)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp lemon juice (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions:
- Rinse the Rice: Wash basmati rice under running water until the water runs clear. Soak it for 15 minutes, then drain.
- Sauté Spices: Heat ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and bay leaf. Sauté for 30 seconds until aromatic.
- Cook Rice: Add drained rice and sauté for a minute. Pour in water and add salt. Bring to a boil.
- Simmer: Cover with a lid, reduce heat to low, and let it cook for 10–12 minutes until the rice is tender.
- Fluff & Serve: Turn off the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork, garnish with cilantro, and serve warm.
